Way back in July 2019, Plei expanded outside Florida for the first time, partnering with multiple facilities in Houston, Texas. 🚀
We are excited to announce a brand new partnership, this time with West Houston Indoor Soccer! As part of an ongoing blog series, we will be highlighting all of our partner facilities in every region where Plei has touched down. 🛬
Since then, the 30,000 sq. ft. building has been a household name for not only locals but also residents of the greater Houston area. 🏙️
Despite featuring just one (1) indoor field for 8v8 play, the facility has plenty to offer, and even goes as far as providing 2 courts for basketball and volleyball. Versatility is a must for this veteran establishment. 🏀🏐
Unfortunately, tough times for this long-running venue were inevitable. In September 2017, the hurricane season hit the Houston area hard, and WHIS fell victim. Hurricane Harvey flooded the entire building, causing the facility to have no choice but to remain closed until further notice. 😞
They bounced back, though. 😉
The entire interior of the building was removed and everything was replaced. Brand new wood courts were installed, as well as a fresh artificial turf. On top of that, a new dasher board (wall) system was added, equipped with glass walls and bleachers for spectators to safely watch games.
Just like that, WHIS was officially back in business. 🥳
Time and time again, their experience has been benefitting not only the facility but also the players and families that walk through their doors every single day. This has allowed them to host numerous programs year-round, including adult and youth leagues and tournaments. 🗓️
Guests also have the opportunity to host birthday parties, corporate events and field rentals for the soccer fields and basketball/volleyball courts. 👥
Since January 2021, WHIS has seen new ownership take over the facility. Former owner Bob Schmitz passed down his duties to his daughter Kelly Menendez and her husband Nelson, who actually started playing at the facility in 2004, still playing to this day. It was just meant to be! 🥰
If there’s one takeaway from this change, it’s that the future of this 22-year-old Houston/Katy facility is in safe hands. 👐
