In summer 2022, Plei expanded into its 10th region, this time landing in the City of Angels: Los Angeles, California. 🎥
Beyond our partnerships with private pickup facilities, we also work to have a presence at the fields found at local public parks! Van Nuys/Sherman Oaks Recreation Center in San Fernando Valley is one of those. As part of our ongoing blog series, we will be highlighting all of our partner fields in every region where Plei has touched down. 🛬

It only makes sense that they put the word in the name. Van Nuys/Sherman Oaks Recreation Center - or just VNSO Park for short - has something for everyone, whether you’re an athlete or just looking for something more passive.
Since athletics is the main attraction here, we’ll start with that.
Not to be confused with Van Nuys Recreation Center located 2 miles north, this expansive park is a hotspot for a number of sports, but none more prominent than baseball and - of course - the beautiful game. In fact, some of the best outdoor synthetic turf soccer fields can be found right here at VNSO; one look at these photos should be more than enough evidence.
It’s no coincidence that you can find these lighted fields at the heart of the complex; Field 2 & Field 3 are full-sized for 11v11, but the key detail here is that each pitch can be split in half to accommodate smaller pickup games if necessary.
The same versatility applies for Field 1, the only difference here being that this one is not quite as large as the other two fields. That being said, expect to play 9v9 on this pitch and 6v6 when split.
The beautiful game’s presence at VNSO Park doesn’t stop at these synthetic surfaces. Immediately west of Field 3 is a multi-purpose area where you can not only find recreational baseball diamonds for public use, but also a miscellaneous number of soccer-lined fields that vary in size.
It’s worth mentioning that you’re not obligated to pick between playing one of these two sports on these fields since they’re publicly-accessible and don’t need to be rented in order to be used, so feel free to get creative.
Baseball takes the cake at VNSO Park when it comes to boasting the larger amount of acres compared to any other sport. Four (4) enclosed fields, home to the Sherman Oaks Baseball Academy, can be found at the north end of the complex, bordering Magnolia Boulevard.
Finally, a huge grass square area on the east end closest to Hazeltine Avenue features four (4) baseball diamonds, one on each corner.
Hard court sports aren’t left out at VNSO Park in the slightest. Hugging Tyrone Avenue is a set of eight (8) tennis courts, with two (2) pickleball courts right next to them. Immediately north of the pickleball courts is a handball court.
The cherry on top in this area of the complex is a pair of basketball courts, which are found east of the pickleball & handball courts.
Completing VNSO Park’s long list of outdoor athletic spaces is the Van Nuys/Sherman Oaks Aquatic Center, which features an open-air heated swimming pool that is the site of plenty of year-round programming.
Beyond offering seemingly endless acres for outdoor recreation, VNSO Park is also home to a number of recreational buildings that offer even more amenities. One of these is the Van Nuys Sherman Oaks Senior Citizen Center, nicknamed the Bernardi Center. Inside, you’ll find a variety of facilities, including an auditorium, multi-purpose room, two community/meeting rooms, two kitchens, a play area, shuffleboard area, a stage and storage rooms.
Senior citizens are really winning over in Sherman Oaks, huh?
