Way back in July 2019, the Plei App expanded outside Florida for the first time, partnering with multiple facilities in Houston, Texas. 🚀 Since July 2019, we have been hosting pickup games at Toros Lifestyle Soccer, and we are looking forward to continuing doing so for many years to come. As part of our new blog series, we will be highlighting all of our partner facilities in every region where Plei has touched down. 🛬
Established in 2010 - and since 2018 now located in the Houston Arts District - Toros HTX is a beautiful soccer facility best known for their versatility in the form of a dine-in coffee shop/bakery (scroll to end of blog for full coffee menu), two large turf fields and a huge mural featuring four legends of the beautiful game.
And they are uniquely placed in Sawyer Yards, offering a lovely view of the downtown Houston skyline.
You may be wondering what coffee has to do with soccer. If you’ve ever had a coffee right before engaging in physical activity, you know it doesn’t always end well. But we certainly aren’t complaining about Toros. It’s different, it’s innovative and the vibes here are exquisite.
Think about it. Maybe you need a quick boost of energy before you step onto the field for your pickup game. Perhaps afterwards you want to grab a latte with a croissant on the side and hang out while watching whatever live match might be playing on the televisions.
Or maybe you’re just at Toros to sip on some cold brew as you spectate ongoing matches from the second floor balcony.
The point is, you have options, and having the option to do more than just play the beautiful game at a soccer facility is something we can always applaud. Don’t shy away from bringing friends and family and taking part in the social lifestyle!
Enough about coffee, though. Let’s get down to business. Toros’ large field is best equipped for 5v5 and 6v6 play, while the smaller one is good for 4v4 and 5v5. If you don’t have turf or indoor shoes, don’t worry; regular cleats are permitted, but please take care of their pitch and practice good pickup soccer etiquette.
We can’t forget to talk about the mural featuring Diego Maradona 🇦🇷, Carlos Valderrama 🇨🇴, Zinedine Zidane 🇫🇷 and Pelé 🇧🇷. It’s right beside the fields, making for a gorgeous backdrop (and a chance to temporarily inherit their abilities and replicate their legendary skills if you stare at a particular player for long enough) 😉
Toros has everything from adult/youth soccer leagues (mens and co-ed), fitness programs, soccer schools and the ability to rent their fields and spaces for gatherings. Leagues are suitable for all skill levels. For field rentals you have a choice between the large (outlined in yellow) or small field (outlined in red).
And finally, party rentals are offered in the form of one, two-hour package including a variety of amenities.
