It was enough to attract Plei’s attention, which should be sufficient evidence for you to realize how iconic it actually is.
This deep blue turf pitch found at Samohi Stadium is home to the student-athletes of Santa Monica High School. Throughout the school year, you’ll see the Vikings - namely their JV and varsity football & soccer teams - proudly taking to the field for game days, ready to strike fear into their competitors with a sea of determination.
As the Vikings work to conquer their enemy on the night, for a moment you might actually believe they are sailing the ocean like the seafarers of centuries past. A fitting metaphor for the school’s mascot of choice.
A certain Erling Haaland would fit right into the Santa Monica High School varsity soccer squad, we think.
The Santa Monica Vikings boast a particular advantage during their home games: the striking contrast between the vibrant blue and the typical green that their opponents are probably used to may as well be enough to throw them off and make them lose focus.
It also makes for quite the spectacle for fans watching from the bleachers as they cheer their side on to yet another resounding victory.
We were so enticed by the emotions that are inevitably felt by Santa Monica High School student-athletes after securing a well-fought W that we became desperate to experience it ourselves in some capacity.
So we brought Plei pickup soccer games there. Adding to our seemingly endless list of unique places to enjoy the beautiful game on-demand anytime, anywhere, Samohi Stadium offers LA County ballers a vibrant new setting to play in. 11v11 is on the cards here, but the field can also be divided into thirds for some 8-a-side.
The blue turf accented with gold to match the school colors is obviously the primary appeal, but the ocean breeze coming from Santa Monica Beach that is just 5 blocks west should be more than enough to seal the deal. And if you’re anything like us, a short trip over to the golden sand is certainly worth it after some hour-long pickup.
It’s truly a one-of-a-kind footy atmosphere that you’ll only find on the West Coast.
