What are the basics about this field?

The single soccer field at Randy Johnson Park is quite the versatile one, as it can be used for 7v7, 8v8 or 9v9 games. You’ll find this spacious turf at the south end of Village Drive where the road meets Bluff Creek Drive.

If you haven’t noticed yet from the photos, this field boasts quite the backdrop thanks to the hills behind it. Factor in the houses built atop this hilly terrain and you have some exquisite scenery that you’d probably find in a movie. Be sure to bring your camera to take some pictures.

This field is used for a variety of purposes, but perhaps none more prominent than the Playa Champions Soccer League, one of the most well-known 7v7 soccer leagues across Los Angeles. They play at two separate locations in Playa Vista, one being the Bluff Creek fields and the other being Central Park.

Playa Champions was founded in 2017 by a pair of friends that bonded through the beautiful game.

Plei first hosted a pickup game at Randy Johnson Park Bluff Creek Fields on September 9, 2023, and we continue to play here today.

Where do I park/what bus stop do I get off at?

Parking accessibility for the Bluff Creek Fields is available in the form of parallel street spots, which you can find along Bluff Creek Drive. This parking shoulder stretches along the full length of Randy Johnson Park, so you won’t have to ever worry about it filling up.

If you’re arriving via bus, the closest stop is available at Millennium Drive and Village Drive. Once you get off, just make your way down Village Drive before crossing Bluff Creek Drive to reach your destination.

What’s the best/easiest way to access the field?

There’s no fence or barrier blocking direct streetside entrance onto the field, so just make your way onto the lush green turf and get ready to ball out.

Any cool things to see or do near the field?

You’re in Playa Vista, so of course there’s something to do nearby!

For starters, you can keep it simple by exploring the rest of Randy Johnson Park. Head west to the fields and you can find a playground area with covered areas equipped with picnic tables. To the east is the Bluff Creek Dog Park, very spacious and suitable for any and all breeds.

Go just a bit further east and you’ll hit the tennis court.

If you want to explore nature at its full capacity, you can take a walk through the Bluff Creek Trail, which you can enter from either side of the park. It’ll take you around the back ends of the park, where you’ll find plenty of garden areas and green scenery on either side of you as you stroll along.

If you’re looking for a more vibrant, social experience, then look no further than Runway, Playa Vista’s dedicated shopping center and probably the closest thing to a downtown area that you’ll find.

Located at 12775 W Millennium, Playa Vista, CA 90094, this is your place to shop and eat until you drop. There are stores and restaurants for days, so you’re bound to find something that suits your needs. Even if you’re not looking to splash some cash on anything in particular, this area makes for a great stroll as you indulge in these luxurious surroundings and architecture.

Notable businesses in Runway Playa Vista include a Cinemark theater, a Whole Foods and a Farmers’ Market that takes place every Saturday from 9am to 2pm.

Where can I go to grab some food or drink around here?

You’re in luck, because numerous dining options are just a couple blocks north of the park in Runway Playa Vista. We’ve picked out the three that we personally found most interesting, but you can always just walk around this diverse shopping center until you find what’s right for you.

Urban Plates (Located two blocks north of the Buff Creek FIelds. Take Village Drive before turning left onto Runway Road; you’ll find Urban Plates immediately to the left of the Orangetheory Fitness.) - It’s in the name. Located within Runway, Urban Plates offers a diverse, affordable menu of what would normally be considered unhealthy items and turns them into healthy ones. How do they do it? By using unprocessed ingredients and cooking everything from scratch, all done by real chefs. Look forward to steaks, seafood, soups, sandwiches, burgers, chicken tenders, as well as vegan options.

Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams (Located two blocks north of the Buff Creek Fields. Take Village Drive before turning left onto Runway Road and entering the Free Market, an indoor shopping mall.) - Treat yourself to something sweet; you deserve it after a tough pickup game. Stop by Jeni’s Ice Creams, where you can indulge in a variety of creative flavors of ice cream and frozen yogurt, all made from natural ingredients. You can even take some home if you prefer.

Hopdoddy Burger Bar (Located two blocks north of the Buff Creek Fields. Take Village Drive before turning left onto Runway Road. Head all the way down until you hit a roundabout..) - On the west end of Runway is a hip, eco-minded burger joint with all-natural meats, housemade buns, shakes & unique beer options. Make sure you don’t leave without trying their fries, which they claim is what made them famous.
