On March 1, 2020, we announced Plei’s entrance into its third market, Orlando, FL! 🎢
We were so excited to finally welcome Central Florida to our family, but as luck would have it, the pandemic happened. We waited patiently (and we know our Orlando ballers were waiting patiently too) until finally in January 2021, we relaunched! 🔥
Beyond our partnerships with private pickup facilities, we also work to have a presence at the fields found at local public parks! Martin Luther King, Jr. Park in Winter Park is one of those. As part of our ongoing blog series, we will be highlighting all of our partner fields in every region where Plei has touched down. 🛬

It was only right that they named it after him. Martin Luther King, Jr. Park comes in at a grand total of 23 acres that are set around Lake Mendsen to create some truly unique scenery.
As a result, there’s plenty to see and do here, and sports are at the top of that list.
You’ll find a number of multi-purpose fields here, which are versatile enough to accommodate pretty much any sport that requires a green surface. Fortunately for us, the beautiful game is one of those.
In an ever-changing world where many are opting for the more easily maintainable synthetic turf, MLK, Jr. Park proudly boasts naturally-grown lawn surfaces. Of course, it does wear down and can even get pretty ugly over time, but there’s just something about playing footy on real grass that will just never get old.
Or maybe that’s just us.
Although there isn’t any consistent field lining here, rest assured that the spaces at MLK, Jr. Park is large enough to create up to three (3) full-size soccer pitches. Best part is, you can enjoy these sorts of matches via Plei.

Beyond footy, these fields are also suitable for American football, particularly the middle one since it has goalposts for the sport installed. Naturally, other grass sports like lacrosse and field hockey can also be played.
Hoopers aren’t left out of the equation, either. Two (2) basketball courts can be found on the south end of the park, bordering Comstock Avenue. On the southwest corner of the park is a baseball/softball field designed to mimic a stadium thanks to plenty of spectator areas having been installed.
As far as sporting amenities are concerned that’s all that there is available at this Winter Park complex. For those more interested in a casual visit, though, you’re in luck. MLK, Jr. Park has a half-mile long trail that stretches around the entirety of Lake Mendsen and the rest of the park limits.
It’s your choice of whether you want to walk, jog, sprint or bike the distance, but however you choose to do it, you’ll surely appreciate Mother Nature’s presence here.
Speaking of the lake, it actually makes for some good fishing. You can pretty much set up wherever you please, but we particularly recommend fishing from the community-built bridges that pass over the lake.
On the central east side of the park bordering South Denning Drive is a community playground that has us wishing we were young again to truly enjoy it. In this space you can also find a pavilion in case you need some extra shade to relax in, but much of this area is covered trees, anyways.
Finally, MLK, Jr. Park is a top destination if you just want to enjoy a picnic with some friends or family. A number of picnic tables are scattered throughout the complex, but you could always set up on the grass, as well.
