Would you believe that these footy pitches were once a golf course? 🤔

Located in the Historic Southside neighborhood of Fort Worth, Texas, Harmon Field Park has undergone many changes in previous decades. Today, footy players of Fort Worth will find five (5) natural grass fields that are perfect for full length 11v11 matches with end-to-end action. ⚽

Beyond the footy pitches, Harmon Park also offers a full-length football field just north of the facility’s parking lot. Harmon’s gridiron comes equipped with two goal posts, so if you like to practice field goals you’ll be able to do so.

Trying to have a full day of sports fun? Harmon Park also has a basketball court conveniently located next to the southernmost parking lot at the park.

Kids also have a fun space of their own, here, too! At the far corner of the northernmost parking lot, you’ll find a playground equipped with swings, slides, and various bars for climbing. What’s more is the playground is covered, so you won’t ever need to worry about too much sun exposure during hotter days. Beside the playground, you’ll find benches and a covered pavilion–perfect for snack breaks and picnics. 😋

As we mentioned above, Harmon Park didn’t always have soccer fields. Named after William H. Harmon, a prominent African American businessman and civic leader, the park was originally established in the 1920s as a recreation hub for Black residents of Fort Worth during the times of segregation.

This park became a central part of the community, hosting celebrations, social gatherings and served as a sign of unity in the African American community. In the 1940s, people of the community requested a golf course for their use, and by 1954, the golf course was open for use! 🏌️

Unfortunately, sections of Harmon Park would be sold to help build the North-South Freeway. The park continued being important to the community, overgoing many changes from this point on. In the 2000s, Fort Worth constructed the fields that you see today! 🚧

Nowadays, these fields host footy players of the local community. They’ve become a home for soccer fans to partake in league matches with their family and friends.

Even more, the fields have lights, so it’s possible to play night games at Harmon Park. With Fort Worth buildings in the background, it makes for some pretty epic footy vibes if we do say so ourselves!
