In October 2023, Plei expanded into our 16th City, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. 🔔 One of the pickup facilities that we have partnered with in the region is Friends Select School! As part of our ongoing blog series, we will be highlighting all of our partner facilities in every region where Plei has touched down. 🛬

Located in the cultural heart of Center City Philly, Friends Select School offers a stunning 50,000 square foot synthetic turf field for soccer lovers in the City of Brotherly Love! 🔔
Friends Select School prides itself on being the first rooftop sports field in Philadelphia, as well as one of the first fields in the US to ever use AstroTurf. This iconic pitch features impact-absorbing shock pads for added safety, as well as cork in-fill turf for a more sustainable field. ♻️
But let’s get down to the footy details! With one (1) large pitch, Friends Select School can fit pickup games of various sizes: 10v10, 9v9 and 8v8. ⚽️
Besides playing pickup games with Plei, you and your footy friends can also enter LU Sports’ Rooftop Cup tournament held annually at Friends Select School! 🏆
Restrooms are available, as well as a water fountain with a filtered bottle filler. Bleachers are installed throughout the facility, so feel free to bring a guest! 🚻
Street parking is available around the Friends Select School. There is also a parking garage conveniently located on N 16th St. 🚘
Don’t like driving in the city? We don’t blame you. 😅 The field is only a four minute walk to Suburban Station and a seven minute walk to the Broad Street Line! 🚃
With this stunning field located in Center City, there is no shortage of incredible eateries in the area should you need to hydrate and re-energize. Friends Select School is only a ten minute walk to the famed Reading Terminal Market. 🌯
How to Enter the Field at Friends Select School
With entrances on all sides and a corporate office building adjacent to the field, finding the entrance can be a bit tricky. The entrance is located on the N 16th St side of the building. Upon entering the walkway you will see a small parking lot that leads you to automatic sliding doors. Once you enter, make your way up the stairs until you reach the roof. There you will find the soccer pitch of your dreams awaiting you!
