Overview:

There’s nothing quite like soccer in the Big Apple. That’s why we’ve partnered with multiple pickup leagues across New York City to bring you all more field options! These leagues host their matches year-round on dozens of unique pitches across NYC, and as part of this partnership, we are bringing Plei App games to their spaces in order to fill in on days that the leagues aren’t running.

That being said, these blogs will answer all the questions that you usually ask before you head out to play some ball, like…

Is it a 6v6, 7v7, 8v8 or 9v9 field? Artificial grass or natural? What are the exact measurements? Where should I park? What subway train do I take and where do I get off? Are there good food/drink options nearby? Are there any other cool things to do or see in the surrounding area?

Fear not: all these questions and more will be answered within each blog, so you can confidently suit up, head out and have fun playing some pickup footy, New York style. 🗽😎

We’re back with another one in Queens as our expansion continues in the growing soccer community of Flushing! ⚽️

What are the basics about this field?

Nestled off the beaten path in Flushing, College Point Fields offer a beautiful synthetic turf pitch perfect for 9v9 pickup games. Though the field is full size, we can also play 8v8 and 7v7 on this field, as well. ⚽️

College Point Field also has a public restroom located between baseball field #1 and baseball field #2. 🚻

Though this is the only footy pitch here at the moment, make sure to check out our “About College Point Fields” section for information regarding the park’s upcoming construction projects. We know you’ll love the good news! 📰

The Plei App first hosted a pickup game at College Point Fields on June 29, 2024, and we continue to play here today.

Where do I park/what subway/bus stop do I get off at?

Free public parking is available in the lot by the entrance on the 130th St side of the park. The gate on 130th St is also the best place to enter the pitch for the game. 🅿️

If you’re taking the bus, here are the closest stops to College Point Fields:

23 Av/129 St on the Q25 line 🚌

20 Av/131 St on the Q20A line 🚌

Getting to College Point Fields from the train can be a bit tricky, given its location, however it is possible. The closest train station is Flushing - Main St on the (7) and <7> lines. You would then need to take the Q25 bus from Main St/Roosevelt Av to reach College Point Fields.

What’s the best/easiest way to access the field?

The best place to enter this beautiful pitch is through the entrance on the 130th St side of the park next to the parking lot.

Any cool things to see or do near the field?

Hermon A. MacNeil Park

Named after a 20th-century sculptor, Hermon A. MacNeil Park is a waterfront recreation space that has handball and basketball courts. The views of the Manhattan skyline at the park will offer a relaxing reprieve from an intense footy session! 🌆

Citi Field

Home of the New York Mets, Citi Field is a great place to check out baseball games, see NYCFC play, and attend concerts for some of the biggest artists in music. ⚾️

Queens Night Market

Queens Night Market is a must-experience outing in this area. Located behind the New York Hall of Science in Flushing Meadow Corona Park, this seasonal outdoor market offers live entertainment, vendors selling food, artwork and more. Since our two-hour pickup games at College Point Fields are on Saturdays, you won’t miss the night market as it’s open until midnight. Feel free to check out their website to see what food vendors they have on deck for that night! 🍔

Where can I go to grab some food or drink around here?

When in Flushing, one must eat how the locals do! Flushing is well known for its incredible Asian cuisine. The only problem is, there are so many great spots in the neighborhood that it can be hard to limit it to just three.

To make it easier on you, we’ve decided to feature three options within Flushing’s New World Mall. This spot is not your ordinary food court, though. It’s filled with authentic Asian spots that make all your food from scratch. Think of it as your Flushing, Queens Starter Kit:

Chinese Korean Dumplings and Noodles

Most of what you need to know is in the name. This spot offers mouth-watering dumplings with various fillings, all of which are made from scratch right there. 🥟

Lanzhou Handmake Noodle

At Lanzhou Handmake Noodle, they offer Chinese lamian soup. In Mandarin, “la” means “to pull” and “mian” means “wheat noodles.” When you get there, you will see someone making the noodles from scratch, pulling them and preparing them for your order. There’s nothing like the taste of freshly made noodles! 🍜

Gong Cha

There's a good reason why so many bubble tea shops are popping up in cities around the world. It’s just too good! Gong Cha is a go-to bubble tea spot for so many people across the globe. Founded in Taiwan, this amazing tea shop offers Milk Teas, Milk Foam drinks, Tea Lattes and seasonal drinks that will surely refresh you after a two-hour footy match. 🧋

Getting to New World Mall

If you’re driving, New World Mall has a parking garage attached to the mall itself. There is also an SP + Parking garage nearby. 🅿️

By bus, you can hop on the Q25 at Ulmer St/25 Av for 8 stops. This takes you right outside the New World Mall. 🚌

About College Point Fields

Think the existing 9v9 field isn’t enough? We couldn’t agree more! You’ll be happy to hear that there are plans for the city to convert the existing baseball field #3 into a mini soccer field. The project’s design phase is currently 90% complete. 🏗️

Both the procurement and construction phases will follow as the city prepares to add more soccer pitches for you to play on! The additional soccer field showcases a growing desire for soccer-specific spaces in the community of Flushing. 🤩

Beyond playing pickup here, there are also opportunities to join tournaments and league play as well. 🏆

If you’re familiar with the soccer community in Flushing, then chances are you already know about 06 United Football Club. They’re a non-profit organization with a team that holds tournaments and trains both adult and youth soccer players in the area. Most of their matches and training sessions are held on College Point Fields. 🤝

NYCFC to make Flushing Meadows its new home

As if there wasn't enough good news for the soccer community of Flushing, the borough of Queens will be getting its own soccer-specific stadium. Named “The Cube,” this soccer-specific venue will be the home of MLS side New York City FC. 🏟️

The stadium will be built near Citi Field in Flushing, and is tentatively set to open in 2027. In case you haven’t seen yet, New York City FC have unveiled renderings of “The Cube” to build anticipation for the new home of soccer in New York City. 🙌🎉
