In January 2024, Plei officially expanded into our 17th region: Grand Rapids, Michigan. 🍻
We kicked things off in the Beer City by partnering with Grand Rapids Soccer Society. We later added a second local facility to the app, known as MSA Sports Spot. 🤝
Introducing the latest pickup venue to arrive on the app: Cedar Rock Sportsplex! As part of our ongoing blog series, we will be highlighting all of our partner facilities in every region where Plei has touched down. 🛬
One of the coolest parts about hockey is how the puck is rarely ever out of play. If you’ve never played arena-style footy before, the idea is much the same. At Cedar Rock Sportsplex, you can use the rink walls to play a one-two with yourself, making it easier to pass the defender.
Cedar Rock Sportsplex features one (1) rink-style turf pitch, big enough to feature 7v7 games with all the electrifying intensity of a hockey match! Arena-style footy blends the best of two worlds: soccer and hockey. Playing here gives you a special experience that you’ll rarely find on outdoor pitches. 🏟️
Beyond playing footy pickup here, Cedar Rock Sportsplex offers women ballers the chance to be crowned champions by featuring a women’s soccer league. This league takes place on Sundays and runs through the fall, winter and spring seasons! 🏆
For the soccer-stars-in-the-making, Cedar Rock has two youth soccer programs to choose from. Both Max Futbol and CASSA Soccer host youth soccer programs and teams from U7 to U19 age ranges. These sessions, academies and teams are available for both boys and girls, and are made to develop youth players’ skills while deepening their love and understanding for the beautiful game.
As we briefly mentioned before, ice hockey wears the crown at Cedar Rock Sportsplex. They have one (1) ice rink that’s made for professional hockey games. In addition to footy leagues, Cedar Rock boasts hockey leagues for players of various skill levels! 🏒
If you’re a little more experienced as a hockey player but you’re looking for a fun league, Cedar Rock Sportsplex has three leagues for you to choose from: Intermediate, Rec and a 40+ league on offer. If you’re an ice hockey newbie, you may want to check out the Beginner Draft League, which prioritizes fun and skill development!
Cedar Rock makes sure that the adults aren’t the only ones having fun though. This facility is the proud home of Rams Hockey Association, an organization that’s dedicated to providing a space for kids to learn how to skate and play ice hockey. They also have opportunities for little ones to join a house or travel team, from the ages U7 to U19. 😎
Looking to take your hockey game to an even higher level? Cedar Rock Sportsplex is one of the homes for Parsons Hockey School. Experienced hockey player and coach Mitchell Parsons aims to help players deepen their understanding of the game of hockey and help them realize their full potential.
Fun on the ice doesn’t stop with ice hockey, though. Have you ever watched curling during the Winter Olympics and wondered where one would go to play this sport? Look no further than Cedar Rock Sportsplex, because this facility is the home of Grand Rapids Curling Club!
Looking for a spot to host special events like birthdays, conventions and community gatherings? Cedar Rock has their facility open for bookings of all kinds. Check out their Birthdays and Field Reservations pages to hold a spot for your upcoming event!
It’s important to note that Cedar Rock Sportsplex is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. When the space was acquired in 2022, switching to non-profit status saved this facility from closure. That means local kids and families are able to still have rinks to skate on and fields to play on!
Because of this, Cedar Rock has volunteer opportunities for athletes, students, families and community members. Donations are also welcomed by Cedar Rock Sportsplex. Any support goes a long way, as this facility is entirely run by the community, for the community, and it continues running because of the community, too! ♥️
