Overview:

In summer 2022, Plei expanded into its 10th region, this time landing in the City of Angels: Los Angeles, California. 🎥

Beyond our partnerships with private pickup facilities, we also work to have a presence at the fields found at local public parks! Airport Park in Santa Monica is one of those. As part of our ongoing blog series, we will be highlighting all of our partner fields in every region where Plei has touched down. 🛬

Imagine scoring a screamer that flies into the back of the net just as yet another plane takes off into the Santa Monica clouds. 🛫☁️

Why keep imagining when it can be your next reality?

With Santa Monica Airport as your backdrop and state-of-the-art synthetic turf as your stomping grounds, enjoy the beautiful game to the max at Airport Park. With 4 acres to its name, it’s as unique as public recreational parks come.

This outdoor recreational space has a one (1) sprawling soccer field to its name, with plans for two more to be added in an expansion effort that will increase the park’s overall size to 12 acres.

Until that happens, you’ll have to settle for the one that’s currently available. From end to end, this pitch is large enough for 11-a-side, but it can also be split into three (3) separate fields for 9v9. Other sports, namely flag football & lacrosse, can also be accommodated here.

If you’ve ever daydreamed about plane-watching while showing off your tekkers on the pitch, then look no further. Download Plei from the App Store or Google Play, type in “Airport Park” in the search bar within the app, and join a match today. 📲

There’s plenty more to enjoy besides footy throughout the 4 acres that are currently available at Airport Park. If you’ve got a furry canine friend, feel free to take them to the off-leash dog area on the east end of the park and let them roam free.

For the kids, a playground is located in the central area of the site.

A 6-mile walking loop stretches around the entirety of the park. No one is stopping you from running it, too, by the way.

Last but not least, a whopping 17 picnic tables and 6 BBQ grills are available throughout the facility.

If you’re a local, you may be well aware of the anticipated closure of the Santa Monica Airport at the end of 2028, a milestone that will see the 227-acre property returned back into the hands of Santa Monica residents.

If you’re not quite familiar with the story, the imminent closure of the airport stems from it being labeled for decades as a nuisance as well as an environmental hazard by neighboring communities. Long term plans for this huge site include transforming it into a public park that would inevitably become a hub for all sorts of activities.

Check out concept art below of what this property could potentially look like in the future.
