Plei expands to Kansas City

✨ A city with a rich sporting culture joins the family

We’ve been making big moves this year, if you weren’t already aware. 🙃

Plei kicked off 2024 by adding a pair of new regions to the app, setting the tone for the next few months ahead. These expansions saw us get the ground running in Tampa, FL as well as extend our presence in Michigan by heading over to Grand Rapids. 📍

February saw us double down again, this time adding Phoenix and Boston to bring our state total to 14 and our total region count to 20. April was undoubtedly the golden month, though. All within days of each other, we scored a poker as we added not one, not two, not three, but FOUR brand new regions to the app: Sacramento, the Bay Area, New Jersey and Austin. 🗺️

Don’t think we’ve been slacking off since then. There’s still plenty of territory to conquer in the Midwestern region of the United States, but where better to continue then by expanding into one of the most important cities in the area? 🤷

That’s precisely what we’ve done. Introducing our 25th all-time region and 9th new market of the year: Kansas City! 🍖 

Kansas City is a city that famously sits on the border between two states. As a result Kansas City, Missouri and Kansas City, Kansas are officially recognized as separately incorporated cities. 🏙️

Despite this, the combined greater Kansas City Metropolitan area is a historical region that is rich in culture, both in the entertainment department as well as in athletics. 🤝

We can talk all day about the Kansas City Chiefs, who earlier this year won the Super Bowl for the 2nd consecutive year. But to stay within the theme of the Beautiful Game, we can’t forget to mention Major League Soccer club Sporting Kansas City, who have won the MLS Cup on two separate occasions since being founded in 1995. 🏆

Some extra testament to the recent growth of soccer in the region is the 2020 founding of the Kansas City Current, a women’s team that competes in the NWSL. ⚽

The Plei App has arrived onto the scene to build off of the already pre-existing love for the World’s Game and contribute to its exponential growth in the near future. Our expansion into Kansas City also couldn’t have come at a better time, with the 2024 Copa América well underway and two local KC stadiums each hosting a group stage match this summer. 🏟️

All this being said, welcome Kansas City to the #PleiFamily. ❤️‍🔥

To ease our way into the Kansas City pickup soccer community, we will start by partnering with an indoor facility known as EPIC Center KC! You can read more about them in the next section. ⏭️

Don’t worry about getting deceived by the name: this Greater Kansas City facility is truly EPIC. 👌

Located in the city of Independence, which is just a 20-minute drive east of downtown Kansas City, EPIC Center KC is a longstanding sports venue that specializes in offering state-of-the-art surfaces for a number of sports. 🔥

Known as EPIC Sports Lodge up until June 2023, the facility features two different surfaces: a hard court and a synthetic turf field. 🌿

Measuring 65 by 25 yards, this spacious turf area is - as you might have noticed by the photos already - primarily for the use of the beautiful game. Two (2) fields can be found in this fieldhouse, each one sized for 6v6 pickup games. ✌️

Our first game at EPIC Center KC will be available to you all completely for free as we celebrate yet another region expansion! We’ll be making our debut here this Friday evening (6/14) at 8pm. ⌚
