Weโve officially run out of words to describe what has just happened this past month. Bear with us as we break down the POTM leaderboard for May 2023. ๐
Remember back in March when Adrian O broke the Plei App record for most games played in a single month for the first time since Michael set a new record last October? That was pretty crazy. The following month, Bassil A took it personally, setting a new record at 34 games. We genuinely believed at this point that any more than that would be near impossible to achieve. ๐ถ
Now we know never to doubt our pickup soccer community ever again. Ty S, who fell short to Bassil in April and finished 2nd place with 27 games, has crushed the record with a shocking 38 games played in May! Whatโs more is that Bassil himself secured 2nd place with 35, beating his own previous record as well! For the first time in Plei App history, the Top 2 in our leaderboard has remained the same in consecutive months! ๐ณ
Tyโs achievement means that the title of Player of the Month returns to South Florida after briefly falling to Dallas via Bassilโs efforts in April. Congrats to both players and we look forward to seeing this rivalry continue throughout the year. ๐
If youโve been keeping up with our POM blogs for a while, you know South Florida tends to dominate the leaderboards more often than not. However, in recent months we have seen other regions make more consistent appearances in the Top 15. We mentioned Dallas already, but Plei App users from regions like Los Angeles, Maryland and Detroit have also been popping up also (we have one from each of those regions in this monthโs Top 15!) ๐ฅ๐ฆ ๐
Finishing in 3rd place is Javi P from Peru and our South Florida region, who played 21 times in May. He has previously finished as high as 2nd place and last month managed to secure 15th place, so weโre happy to see him climb up the leaderboard once again! ๐
Taking 4th is Sergio S, who - with this placement - has now made 3 consecutive Top 15 appearances. The Venezuelan played 20 times this past month and records his highest ever finish since debuting in March. ๐ช
A new debutant takes 5th place! Hailing from Eritrea, Dallas baller Natu A plays 20 times to make the Top 15 - and he only joined us on May 3! Talk about an immediate newfound love for the Plei App. Keep it up, Natu! ๐
Hereโs another special story waiting to be told: Michael J, the legendary South Florida baller from Hong Kong, takes 6th place in May with 19 games played. His Top 15 appearance this past month officially marks a year (yes, 12 months in a row) that he has made the list since we began our POTM series in May of 2022. The most iconic detail of all? Michael was the player who took home the #1 spot in our debut leaderboard, and since then has never fallen below 12th place. ๐คฏ
Jesus H from Canada, who has been on the Plei App since Jan. 2022, finishes in 7th with 19 games played and makes his debut in the Top 15. We hope to see more of him going forward! ๐ค
Ukrainian baller Marโian D also played 19 games and takes 8th place. He also makes debut in our best 15 players, having joined back in November 2021. Luciano V from Venezuela is also a Top 15 debutant, playing 19 games in May just like Michael, Jesus and Marโian to take 9th. Congrats goes out to all 3 players! ๐ฅ
With just one less game played, Francesco V grabs 10th place. The Italian baller who plays in South Florida previously finished in a three-way tie for 2nd place this past January and makes his return to the Top 15 with 18 games played in May. ๐
Our 5th out of 7 Top 15 debutants this past month is Angie C, who plays in Houston. She, like Francesco, managed to play 18 times, and takes 11th to introduce herself to the world. ๐
February co-champ Moe M returns to the Top 15 after the Libya baller missed out in April. Keep it up, Moe! ๐
Meanwhile, April debutant Zack L from Myanmar completes 2 appearances in a row with a 17-game performance to take 13th place. We hope to see more of Los Angeles going forward! ๐ฅ
Finishing in 14th and 15th, respectively, are our last 2 Top 15 debutants for the month of May! Shouts goes out to Princess K (Maryland/USA) & Gani S (Detroit/Albania), who both played 17 games! ๐ย
We love to highlight the growing diversity of the Plei App community. A total of 42 different countries filled up our top 100 in May, with 14 of those countries being represented in the Top 15. Overall, 112 unique nationalities represented the entire Plei App this past month. The โBeautiful Gameโ in the flesh! โฅ๏ธ
We want to remind everyone that all players who make it into our monthly top 100 earn a free Plei App shirt! ๐
๐จREMINDER ๐จ: Throughout 2023, we will not be using one consistently updated link where you would all normally keep track of your leaderboard progress. Instead, a new link will be provided each month. ๐
Here is the final list for the Top 15 players of May 2023!
As a reminder, here are the prizes for the Top 15 players (updated as of September 2022)!

Tyโs win means that 6 unique, new winners have taken the Plei App throne this year in just 5 months! ๐ฒย
Another important detail is that our POTM monthly leaderboard officially turned 1๏ธโฃ in May! ๐
โI do not play football to win the Ballon d'Or. I play football to be happy, because I love it and want to play football.โ โ Neymar Jr. ๐ง๐ท
Weโre just going to assume that the record will keep getting broken, no matter how impossible we think it is. ๐
Summerโs approaching! Will you climb to the top of the Plei App rankings in June? ๐คโ๏ธ
